I got this idea from Carol Dunstan on Splitcoaststampers. Its a simple and fun project for the Holidays. Not only can you use it to decorate your tree but makes a great gift topper or a gift in itself.
- Choose two coordinating designer series paper and cut a 3" AND 2" square from each paper.
- Trim the square pieces into 1/2" strips. (HINT: You should have 12 strips of 3"x 1/2" and 8 strips of 2"x 1/2".)
- Using the 1/16" hole punch, pierce each end of the strips about 1/4" in from the end.
- Remove the cap of the hatpin and thread one side of the 3" strips. Make sure to alternate each paper for a nice pattern.
- Start with the bottom strip (closest to the loop/eye of the hatpin) and thread the other end onto the pin.
- Repeat until all the strips are threaded, overlapping the other and always starting from the bottom.
- You should have something that looks like a ball.
- Repeat steps 4-6 with the 2" strips.
- Add the crystal beads and place the cap back onto the hatpin.
- Finish by adding the ribbon to the loop/eye of the hatpin and hang.
