A Cherry on Top (part 2)

Monday, I shared with you the "traditional" use of the hostess set, A Cherry on Top. Today's share is an unexpected look at the set.

Instead of using the yummy tops for a cupcake or ice cream, I used the one with the hearts for popcorn. Still deliciously cute, don't you think?

Some of the things that I did:

  • Cut the back piece of the Petite Purse Die for my popcorn box.
  • Distressed the Whisper White Card Stock with the blades from the Paper Snips.
  • Sponged the edges of both the Whisper White Card Stock and the Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper to give it a distressed/aged look. (TIP: cut the sponges into quarters and get more use out of them.) I even sponged the punched lace border because I wanted to "dull" the red a bit.

Some of the items are discontinued but you can still get the digital copies of the stamp sets and designer series papers. And don't forget to check out this week's digital downloads here.

*Note: the NEW stitched 1/4" grosgrain ribbon and wood-like buttons.*

A Cherry on Top

A Cherry on Top Clear-Mount Stamp SetI'm going to try something new this week. I'm going to focus on one stamp set and show you different projects and hopefully show you the versatility of stamps. Since we {heart} our hostesses, I thought this week's featured stamp set would be a hostess set--A Cherry on Top.

This card was one that was made during my Open House. Traditional card with a little dimension provided by Crystal Effects. It makes the glass dome come to life. Crystal effects has many functions--it can be used as an adhesive, gives a high glossy finish (lacquered look), and creates amazing 3D effects--a great way to embellish a project without embossing.

New Stampin' Up Firm Foam Stamp Pads

I love the new (improved) pads. The pads are much juicer and really do help give your stamped images a cleaner look. Take a look at this video by Shannon West!

Please note: Five ink colors have undergone formula changes to improve functionality and color stability with the new firm foam pads. These colors are:
  • Basic Black
  • Basic Gray
  • Marina Mist
  • Perfect Plum
  • Tempting Turquoise
All five colors of the reformulated inks have been fully tested and approved. While using the new ink formula in the old Stampin’ Pads is fine, we do not recommend using the old ink formula for these five colors in the new firm foam pads. Any refills purchased after April 30, 2012, will contain the new formulated ink.

Have questions about the new stampin' pads? Find them here(FAQs)

**Don't throw away your old ink refills because you can still use them with water coloring. Just make sure you label them so you don't get the new and old mixed up.**

Open House Projects

Beside the create tag, we also made some love notes and a matching box to store them in.

The box was inspired by Mary Fish. I adjusted my box so that it could house the love notes. It's so easy to make different sized boxes with our Simply Scored.

The box:
BASE: 6-1/2" square and scored 1-1/2" on all four sides.
TOP: 5-1/8" square and scored 3/4" on all four sides.

Love notes:
Card base: is 3" x 6" (score at 3" and fold in half so the final measurement is 3" square)
1st layer: 2-3/4" square
2nd layer: 2-1/2" square
